Love who you love.
I bring you this special announcement from a very ordinary heart… A heart that wants to be loved, that wants to be cared for, and that wants to be warmed with a nice hug or maybe just a nice bowl of soup.
I bring you this announcement full of sincerity and free of jokes. (Just kidding, it will still be full of jokes.)
I have been in love only a few times in my life. Like all of us seem to do, I guard my heart well and put up countless brick wall barriers just in case one or two of them gets broken down. And on top of those brick walls, I am wearing a bulletproof vest. And I’m wearing that vest in a stainless steel refrigerator with no known forms of entry on whatever that island was that Tom Hanks got trapped on in Castaway.
So yeah, I’ve got my heart protected…
And I, like I hope for the rest of us, have been extremely discerning with who I allow to know my heart. I’m not gonna let anyone play games with it or toss it around. I’m terrified of getting it broken because we all know if a piece of china breaks, you can never quite collect all the little fragments and reassemble them to make the same cool piece of china it once was. And hearts are exactly like china except you don’t eat fancy food off of them (unfortunately).
To recap: You guard your heart. Someone gets in.
So then what do you do?
Love them. Fully and completely. Adore them. You can’t give them enough love. So what if you’re scared? Give your heart a lollipop and tell it to keep going. So what if you get lazy? Get your heart a gym membership and take full advantage of the elliptical.
The thing is, there are so many questions and so many trials when it comes to love. The second thing is, love is the answer to all those questions and the way to overcome those trials. Love is the only pure thing out there, and doubts, fears, judgment from others, restlessness, distress… Those are all just impurities that taint the purity of love. Go buy a strainer. And run your heart through the strainer every morning when you wake up to rid it of those impurities and ensure that you love throughout the day in the purest, truest, most fulfilling way you can.
If you think this sounds phony or delusional, I want you to remember: This came from someone who hates everything.
